October’s Warrior Of The Month: Christopher Ly
It’s the moment you’ve all been waiting for… Warrior of the Month is back! Congratulations to October’s warrior of the month: CHRISTOPHER LY! Not only is he our very own VDSC but he was nominated for being an active volunteer in our community. Let’s see how the interview went.
A: CONGRATS CHRISTOPHER! HOW DOES IT FEEL TO BE THIS MONTH’S WARRIOR OF THE MONTH?
C: Wow! It definitely feels good, but I’m still so surprised I was even nominated!
A: WELL YOU ARE CLEARLY LOVED! WHY DO YOU THINK YOU WERE NOMINATED?
C: Haha! Stop making me blush. Well, I think I got nominated because I do love helping the community through many different volunteer opportunities such as YCCD, Peer Ed, etc. Big ups to volunteering J
A: WHO DOESN’T LOVE THE WARM FUZZIES YOU GET WHEN VOLUNTEERING? WAY TO LEAD BY EXAMPLE, CHRIS! BUT ENOUGH WITH THE CLICHÉS, LET’S GET TO THE FUN STUFF. IF YOU COULD BRING ANYONE FAMOUS BACK TO LIFE, WHO WOULD IT BE AND WHY?
C: Michael Jackson for sure! Besides the fact that he was a legend, he was one of my inspirations while growing up. WHO DOESN’T LOVE MICHAEL JACKSON?
A: I COULDN’T AGREE MORE! ANOTHER RANDOM QUESTION BUT I KNOW EVERYONE’S WONDERING THIS: WHO WOULD YOU RATHER BE STUCK IN AN ELEVATOR WITH? JUSTIN BIEBER OR MILEY CYRUS?
C: Well… That’s a really tough choice. I’d probably have to go with Miley Cyrus because believe it or not, I’m a huge fan of Hannah Montana so meeting her in person would be pretty awesome!
A: WOW! LOVING YOUR HONESTY. SO I HEAR YOU’RE SLICK WITH THE LADIES, WHAT’S YOUR SECRET?
C: No secret… Just gotta stay cool calm collected, if you know what I mean. ;)
A: HAHAH! NICE MOTTO BUT I KNOW WE’RE ALL WONDERING, BETWEEN VOLUNTEERING AND SPORTS, HOW DO YOU EVER FIND THE TIME TO ROMANCE WITH THE LADIES?
C: It’s just got to come naturally… No, I’m kidding, I have no game whatsoever.
A: FROM WHAT I HEAR, YOU’RE A LADIES MAN! MAYBE IT’S THAT SMILE OF YOURS! WE ALWAYS SEE YOU SMILING IN THE HALLWAYS. YOU MUST BE QUITE THE OPTIMIST. TELL ME, IS THE GLASS ALWAYS HALF EMPTY OR HALF FULL?
C: I always try to see the glass as half full but we’re all human so we can’t always be as optimistic as much as we try to be!
A: I COULDN’T HAVE SAID IT BETTER MYSELF. SINCE I LIKE RANDOM QUESTIONS, WHY DO YOUR SOCKS MATCH?
C: Why do my socks match? Um… Who doesn’t like matching socks? :D
A: WELL I LIKE TO MIX & MATCH, BUT THAT’S JUST ME. OKAY, LET’S PLAY A SHORT GAME. I’LL SAY ONE WORD AND YOU TELL ME THE FIRST THING THAT COMES TO YOUR MIND. READY? EGGPLANT !
C: Fish.
A: JO BROS!
C: Nick Jonas.
A: TREE!
C: Squirrel.
A: MILK!
C: Chocolate.
A: NOW WASN’T THAT FUN? IF YOU COULD HAVE ANY MAGIC POWER IN THE WORLD WHAT WOULD IT BE AND WHY?
C: I’d definitely be an Avatar, HANDS DOWN. With all four elements, fire, water, air, you know.
A: I LOVED THAT MOVIE! OKAY, I’VE TORTURED YOU ENOUGH. LAST QUESTION, AND THIS IS A SERIOUS ONE. TEAM JACOB OR EDWARD?
C: Whatever the ladies want to hear. ;)
A: NICELY PUT. TEAM EDWARD IT IS! :D THANK YOU CHRISTOPHER, ENJOY YOUR 30 DAYS OF FAME!
Well, there you have it warriors: October’s Warrior of The Month! Make sure to look out for the next WOTM and VOT E VOTE VOTE!
Hello again, everybody! This is our second-last part of Behind the Word! My apologies for the last part not appearing in the April issue. There was a mix-up with the layout team and it wasn’t printed. It’s still on the website, which is http://whsword.wordpress.com! Now, this month I have interviewed the Promotions team, which consists of Puneet Riar and Emily Chan! Here’s the interview, enjoy!
1. What did you think of the Word Committee when it was first started?
E: I thought that it was a great opportunity. It gives us the chance to work together and aim higher. As cheesy as it sounds, more heads are better than one!
P: When it started, I was like “OMG”. I never thought our own school would have a newspaper, but when the Word came out, I was really excited.
2. Why did you join the Word Committee in the first place?
E: Well after writing for a year, I thought it was a cool opportunity. Besides, as one of the promotions people, it’s something I enjoy and can work with.
P: I read the Word in the first couple years it started, and I thought the articles were really interesting and I really wanted to share some of my opinions with other people who read the newspaper.
January’s Warrior of the Month
By: Emily Chan, Grade 11 & Puneet Riar, Grade 12
Drumroll please! Presenting… January’s warrior of the month, Cinzia Barucci!
First of all Cinzia, congrats on becoming warrior of the month! How does it feel?
I’m really excited to be the Warrior of the Month. I really didn’t think I would ever be Warrior of the Month but I guess people actually like me.
I like you! Hahaha! Why do you think you were nominated?
I really don’t know why I was nominated. It was probably by mistake. LOL.
No! I’m sure it’s wasn’t a mistake! What are you involved in, in school? Anything outside of school?
Well, I do WCP and Prevention Education.
December’s Warrior of the Month
AAAANNDD here are your December Warriors of the Month: Tiffany Tran, Darius Davidson and Max Miller in Grade Ten!
CONGRATS TIF, DARIUS AND MAX! HOW DO YOU GUYS FEEL?
M: Surprised. I didn’t even know I was nominated – does that make me a bad person? Anyways, my ego is inflated enough as it is. This isn’t helping.
D: Surprised, like a little boy walking upon his parents putting presents in the tree
and eating the milk & cookies specially prepared for Santa. I’d like to give a special shout out to all the kitties in the world! Especially one kitty~ : )
T: Um kind of surprised?
LOL@ THE COOKIES THING! MY DAD EATS THE COOKIES I LEAVE OUT FOR SANTA!
NEXT QUESTION: WHY DO YOU GUYS THINK YOU WERE NOMINATED?
M: I don’t know but let me tell you, it’s long overdue - hey, see?! It’s the ego!
D: I think we we’re nominated because of Max. He’s got like secret connections in the underworld and he’s always making these shady deals with men in big, scruffy, black suits. Yoh, wait a minute! Why are you asking this question? You already told all of us why we were nominated! We were nominated because us three devoted students (With the exception of Tiffany because I like to exclude her for fun) had organized the canned food drive that was on Halloween.
T: no idea?
HOW MANY LICKS DOES IT TAKE TO GET TO THE MIDDLE OF A TOOTSIE POP?
November’s Warrior of the Month
By: Emily Chan, Grade 11 & Puneet Riar, Grade 12
PRESENTING! Your November 2009 Warrior of the month: Chanel Ly!
Congratulations Chanel! You’re November’s Warrior of the Month! So, first of all, why do you think you were nominated?
C: I don’t know exactly… I didn’t even know I was nominated until I heard I won!
ARE YOU SERIOUS! It was, like, all over school! Haha! Jokes! Anyways, what kind of extracurricular stuff are you involved in?
C: Hmm… Currently, I am coordinating Windermere’s organic garden and I teach piano at elementary schools. I’m also this year’s community service liaison.
You have such an expensive name. How does it feel to be named after a high end fashion line?
C: It’s pretty handy to be named after the brand because my name would often be spelled wrong. All I have to do is refer to the brand.

Warriors of the Year
By: Puneet Riar, Grade 11 & Emily Chan, Grade 10
All throughout the year, there have been some amazing, dedicated students. Those who possess those awesome leadership skills, those who have an exceptional community service record, or that person who is just an awesome friend or a great role model. Or maybe, even that teacher who doesn’t get mad if you chew gum in class.
Warrior of the Month Interview
Hey Warriors! The Windermere Word just wants to thank all of you who voted for “Warrior of the Month” for the month of May. The turnout was great! We had a total of 306 voters all over the school, which are the most voters we’ve had for a single month all year!
We also want to thank everyone who went on the Word website and gave in their nominees. We received a number of nominees through the website, all deserving to be “Warrior of the Month”.
Again, the hunt is on to find June’s “Warrior of the Month”. Do you know anyone who should be commended for their leadership skills, or their outstanding community service? Or maybe just a great friend? Then start thinking of those people! The Windermere Word is going to be announcing some important dates regarding the “Warrior of the Month.” Stay tuned
Lastly, congrats again to Nam Bui who is May’s “Warrior of the Month.” Way to go, Nam!
Warrior of the Month
The March Warrior of the Month is Neelam Khare, who was nominated for being an outstanding leader in the school and community. She greets everyone with a smile and is usually singing some tune at the most random of moments. Neelam is and has been extremely involved in the school since grade eight. Some of her interests include sustainability issues and social justice. And of course, she takes enjoys spending time with her friends and family.
Q: How do you feel about being nominated for Warrior of the Month? And winning!
Well can’t say I’m surprised… Just kidding! It feels good and I’m honestly surprised because there are a lot of other people who are doing a lot in Windermere who deserve to be recognized as well… like you!
Warrior of the Month (Interview)
by Jenn Lin, Grade 12
You nominated & you voted. Your Warrior of the Month is… JASON COSTA! Jason was nominated for being “always smiling and being such a positive role model, as well as his involvement in student council.”
From what I’ve learned, at school, Jason Costa is involved in the vocal ensemble, the school planning council, and is president of the student council. Meanwhile in the community, Jason still does a lot of volunteering at his church despite his current disability. He hopes to soon raise awareness in the community about cancer and spinal cord injuries, and help those with similar disability, youth in particular, to cope with it and share his experiences. Jason also loves reading, music, and spending time with friends.
VOTE for your Warrior of the Month
Thank you all for voting for your Warrior of the Month. The Warrior .. for the month of January… is… in the January Issue of the Windermere Word! Goodluck to all the nominees!
Keep a lookout for our release on January 14, 2009!!!
